Physician Email Templates

  1. We focus our advocacy on the U.S. Senators and Representatives on the subcommittees that fund foreign aid - the State and Foreign Operations subcommittees of Appropriations - whose names and foreign affairs staffers are listed below.

  2. It’s important to personalize your message from your experience, and we recommend keeping your letter to about one page.

  3. We encourage you to request a follow-up zoom or phone meeting with the appropriate staffer in your legislator’s office to more fully share your experience and your concern. Constituents who care about and have experience with an issue can have a big influence on their legislator. If you decide to request a meeting, Fund for Global Health Director of Advocacy Keith Johnson would be happy to help you prepare and may be able to join the meeting.

EMAIL TEMPLATE

For writing to Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), Chair of the Senate State and Foreign Operations subcommittee of Appropriations, and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Ranking Member. You are writing as an issue expert on global primary care, not as a constituent (unless you live in Delaware or South Carolina):

Subject line: Please have PEPFAR report resources spent on integrated service delivery

Dear Senator ______

Paraphrase this first paragraph in your own words with your observations about the benefits of integrated frontline primary care in global settings:

I was pleased to learn that PEPFAR is increasingly integrating HIV services with local primary care settings.  In my experience as a family doctor in the U.S. and abroad, integrated delivery of health services is best for patients.  In the countries where I have worked (name them), many patients have to leave their work and walk a long way to see a provider; so it’s much better for them to get their and their children’s various needs met in one place.

This is what we’re asking the appropriators to do:

As a leader of the subcommittee that funds our foreign aid, I request that you include in the next foreign aid legislation a requirement that PEPFAR report the proportion of funds spent on integrated care and provide a target for increasing that proportion.

Best regards,

(name, credentials, city)

(please send to staffers for these legislators listed below and bcc Keith Johnson: k.johnson@fundforglobalhealth.org)
